Q: #47. Was Paul married?

A: This is total conjecture. Apparently, Paul may have been a member of the Sanhedrin, which was a council of Jewish rulers made up of 71 members, and kind of like our Supreme Court today. One of the requirements of the Sanhedrin was that its members be married. Therefore, if Paul had been a member, he would have been married.

However, the Bible is silent on both the issues of whether or not Paul was married, or if he was a member of the Sanhedrin. We do have one possible clue that Paul may have been a member though from (Acts 26:10) which says “and when they (Christians) were put to death, I gave my voice (cast my vote) against them.”

Obviously, we know from Paul’s writings in the Bible that he was single when he wrote them, so if he was married at one time, his wife likely died prior to, or shortly after his conversion to Christianity.
