Q: #595. How many times in the Bible did God use an animal to accomplish His purpose?
A: God used an animal to accomplish His purpose a number of times in the Bible. I am going to list 10 of these times here, then at the bottom, I will share a link to another study where I mention 5 times that Jesus miraculously used fish for a purpose.
Following, I will list each animal that God used, Bible verses showing where the animal was used, and what God’s purpose was in using each animal.
“Ram” (Gen 22:13-14) – Purpose: God caused a ram’s horns to be stuck in a thicket, so that Abraham could catch the ram, and use it as a replacement sacrifice for his son.
———-
“A Great Fish” (Jonah 1:17 – 3:3) – Purpose: God sent “a great fish to swallow Jonah,” so that he would obey His command to go to Ninevah.
———-
“Two Female Bears Bears” – (2 Kin 2:23-24) – Purpose: God sent two female bears to attack “42 youths” as a warning not to disrespect His prophets.
———-
“Frogs, Lice, Flies, Locusts” – (Ex Ch. 8, Ch. 10:1-20) – Purpose: God sent these 4 animals during His “ten plagues” on Egypt, to force Pharaoh to release the Israelites from captivity.
———-
“A Donkey” – (Num 22:22-40) – Purpose: God allowed a donkey to see what is normally unseen, and caused it speak, so that Balaam would obey Him.
———-
“Quail” – (Ex 16:13)(Num 11:31-34) – Purpose: God sent quail two different times to provide meat for the Israelites in the wilderness. (Also see: Ps 78:27, Ps 105:40).
———-
“Ravens” – (1 Kin 17:2-6) – Purpose: God used ravens to bring “bread and meat” to Elijah twice a day while he was in the wilderness.
———-
“Lion” – (1 Kin 13:20-26) – Purpose: God sent a lion to kill a prophet who disobeyed Him.
———-
“Lions” – (Dan 6:21-22) – Purpose: God shut the mouths of lions to keep them from killing Daniel.
———-
“Rooster” – (Mt 26:33-35, 69-74)(Mk 14:29-31,66-72)(Lk 22:33-34,54-62) – Purpose: God caused a rooster to crow 2 times to fulfill a prophecy of Jesus that Peter would deny Him 3 times.

In addition, here is the link to the 5 times that Jesus used “fish” to perform a “miracle,” all of which had a purpose.
I’ll leave you with a few other verses that I personally do not think are examples of God “using an animal to accomplish His purposes,” but some might: (Gen 3:21)(Gen 8:6-12)(Ex 7:8-12)(2 Kin 6:17)(Mt 8:28-34)(Mt 21:1-7)(Acts 28:3-6).
