A: I find eleven times when God sent fire from Heaven.
(Gen 19:24)(Lk 17:29) When God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.
(Ex 9:23-24) During the seventh plague upon Egypt.
(Lev 9:23-24) When offerings were made at the Tabernacle.
(Lev 10:1-2) To kill Nadab and Abihu.
(Num 11:1-3) When the Israelites complained (killing some).
(Num 16:35) Destroyed 250 men who rebelled against the God-given authority of Moses and Aaron.
(1 Kin 18:38) Consumed the offering made by Elijah.
(2 Kin 1:10) To destroy the men King Ahaziah sent to Elijah.
***Note: In (Lk 9:51-56), after the Samaritans rejected Jesus, James and John asked Jesus if they should repeat when Elijah did here, and “call down fire from heaven.” From this, they may have been given the nickname “Sons of Thunder” from Jesus: (Mk 3:17).
(2 Kin 1:11-12) To destroy a second set of men King Ahaziah sent to Elijah.
(1 Chr 21:26) On the altar David made at the threshing floor of Ornan.
(2 Chr 7:1) Consumed the burnt offering made when Solomon dedicated the Temple.
During the end times, at the end of the 1000 years, the book of Revelation says that God will again send fire from Heaven, destroying the armies of Gog and Magog (Rev 20:9).
It is also interesting to note that Satan (Job 1:12,16), and the future “false prophet” (Rev 13:13) are also shown to have the ability to make fire fall from Heaven. (See related: “Can Satan control the weather?”)
