Q: #465. How many times did God use the rod of Moses, and the rod of Aaron?
A: I found 8 times that God used the rod of Moses, and 6 times that He used the rod of Aaron. Below is a chart showing each time that God supernaturally used their rods.
| The rod of Moses | The rod of Aaron |
| (Ex 4:2-4) – Turned his rod into a snake | (Ex 4:30) – Turned his rod into a snake |
| (Ex 9:22-23) – Used his rod to bring the 7th plague of hail | (Ex 7:10-12) – Turned his rod into a snake |
| (Ex 10:12-13) – Used his rod to bring the 8th plague of locusts | (Ex 7:19-21) – Used his rod to turn the water of the Nile to blood (1st plague) |
| (Ex 10:21-22) – Likely (doesn’t say “rod”) used his rod to bring the 9th plague of darkness | (Ex 8:5-7) – Used his rod to bring the 2nd plague of frogs |
| (Ex 14:16,21) – Used his rod to part the Red Sea, (Ex 14:26-27), and close it | (Ex 8:16-17) – Used his rod to bring the 3rd plague of lice |
| (Ex 17:5-7) – Used his rod to bring water from the rock in Horeb | (Num 17:8) – Caused his rod to bud with almonds *** |
| (Ex 17:8-15) – Used his rod to help the Israelites win the war against the Amalelites | |
| (Num 20:8-13) – Used his rod to bring water from the rock in Kadesh |
*** Aaron’s rod which budded was placed in the Ark of the Covenant (Heb 9:4)(Num 17:10).
Aside from the rods of Moses and Aaron, I could only find one more instance in the Bible where a rod (staff) was supernaturally used, and that was the staff of the Angel of the Lord (likely Jesus) (Judg 6:21).

This lesson helps me for references for my preaching today.
Glad I could help Darryll.
Thanks for this study! I am teaching on the budding of Aarons’ rod tomorrow at our Bible School in the Philippines. This was helpful and so interesting to see the usage of both Aaron’s and Moses rods.
Thanks for taking the time to let me know this study helped you Eric. I hope your lesson went well.
Do you think they were two different rods?
I do. I see no reason to believe they were the same rod.
