What the Bible has to say about children.
Here is what Jesus said:
(Mt 18:1-6) At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? (2) And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, (3) And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. (4) Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (5) And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. (6) But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
(Mt 18:14) Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
(Mt 19:13-15) Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. (14) But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. (15) And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence. (also see Mk 10:13-16, Lk 18:15-17).
(Mt 21:15-16) And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased, (16) And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
(Mk 9:36-37) And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them, (37) Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
Children are a gift from God:
(Ps 127:3-5) Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. (4) As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. (5) Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
(Prov 17:6) Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
(Gen 33:5) And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.
(1 Sam 24-28) God gave Hannah a child after she was barren for many years and she named him Samuel and dedicated his whole life to the Lord.
David seemed to believe his infant child had died and gone to be with the Lord:
(2 Sam 12:23) But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.
We are to teach children about God, and His laws and commandments:
(Joel 1:3) Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
(Deut 6:7) And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
(Ps 78:5-6) For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: (6) That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
Also see: (Deut 31:12-13)(2 Tim 3:15)
We are to discipline our children:
(Prov 13:24, 19:18, 22:6, 22:15, 23:13-14, 29:15, 29:17)
Fathers are not to provoke their children to wrath:
(Eph 6:4) And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
(Col 3:21) Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
