Q: #308. What is the most important verse in the Bible?

A: WOW, that is a VERY difficult, and pretty much impossible question to answer. Since ALL of the Bible is God’s direct word to us (See Q: #175), every word is important. I just cannot whittle this down to one verse, but I will go with a “Top 10 list” of verses I personally consider to be crucial. Please keep in mind that if you ask 100 people for a “Top 10 list,” you will have 100 completely different lists. This is simply mine that I feel covers as broad a range of important topics as is possible with only 10 verses to choose from. (These are listed in the order they appear in the Bible, not by importance.)

(Gen 1:1) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Importance:
EVERYTHING is created by God and belongs to God! Nothing happens, has happened, or is created by chance (i.e. evolution).

——————————

(Mt 22:37) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Importance:
Jesus’ response when asked what the greatest commandment was (verse 36).

——————————

(Mt 28:19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Importance:
The last commandment Jesus gave us before His ascension was to share the good news of the Gospel with others: The Great Commission.

——————————

(Jn 14:6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Importance:
Jesus is the ONLY way to eternal life in Heaven with the Father.

——————————

(Rom 3:23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Importance:
The reason why Jesus gave His life for us.

——————————

(Rom 8:28) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them  who are the called according to his purpose.

Importance:
Everything that happens to us as Christians has a purpose. God either causes or allows all things. He is totally in control. He will, in some way, work things out for our good.

——————————

(1 Cor 10:31) Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Importance:
God should be glorified in EVERYTHING we do!

——————————

(2 Cor 12:9) And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Importance:
God power can shine the brightest in our weaknesses. His grace will carry us through our infirmities.

——————————

(2 Tim 3:16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Importance:
The Bible is God’s direct, infallible word, given to man to instruct us, direct us, help us to know His will, and so much more. Reading it regularly is imperative to our lives.

——————————

(Heb 1:8) But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

Importance:
This may seem an odd verse to choose, but the deity of Jesus is being increasingly denied in the world today. It is being said of Jesus: “He was a very good man.” He was, is, and always will be GOD! I believe this verse to be the best single proof of His deity.

Obviously, I have left out dozens of important and key verses, but if I was forced to choose 10, this is my 10.
