Envy is the intense desire to obtain something that someone else has that you do not. It can include many things such as; possessions, money, beauty, talent, etc… God has promised in the Bible to give us everything we need. Being envious means we are not content with what God has given us. It also violates the 10th commandment which states we are not to covet anything our neighbor has. We should, instead, dwell on all the good things God has provided for us and rejoice in the blessings He has bestowed on us.

(James 3:16) For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

(Gal 5:21) Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

(Gal 5:25-26) If we live in the spirit, let us also walk in the spirit. (26) Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

(James 3:14) But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

(Rom 13:13) Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in clambering and and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

(1 Pet 2:1) Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings.

(Prov 27:4) Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

(Prov 14:30) A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

(Job 5:2) For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.

(Prov 3:31) Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

(Prov 23:17) Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long.
